In 1780, the father of Dr. Franz Werner, the renowned "Domdechant" (dean) of the Cathedral of Mainz, acquired from the Count York the Hochheim wine estate.

Domdechant Werner is credited with having saved the Cathedral from being demolished during the French Revolution and was responsible for its reconstruction. Today, the estate still bears his name and is owned and operated by the 7th generation of the family.

The picturesque estate, with its classical manor house and vaulted cellars, is well worth seeing.

The estate-bottled wines are found in leading wine shops and restaurants in Europe and abroad. Some 50% of the production is exported.
